Ninth Planet MTB Race

May 17, 2025 Flagstaff AZ

Like the rest of what Sable events have hatched, it has been after an inspiring ride and then brainstorming at the local brew house or coffee shop.

GYCR 66 is no different. After having a couple beers with a friend who was reminiscing about the days when Flagstaff had a stage race and the glory of a downtown crit, the light went off, why can’t we do it again? We were able to bring back the Lowell climb for Bear Howard, why cant we do a Crit for Northern Arizona?

With our other events we pride ourselves on exploring, adventure and often the challenge of the course….this one is going to be a little different flavor! Held in the shadows of the San Francisco Peaks, in a town rich with history, this race is going to be more of a block party. This is going to be our 4th of July fire works, with street vendors and music. All landing on the heels for the Downtown Mile and City 4th of July Parade. So you can play all day!

We have designed a fun, technical course on the NAU campus just blocks from downtown Flagstaff. While the rest of the desert is suffering through triple digit temps, at 7,000 ft the only thing hot out will be the racing. At just under a mile course and with NAU’s beautiful campus hosting, this is going to be great racing and even better spectating.

Registration and Racing Details

We are proud to have partnered with NAU and fortunate enough to be able to use the campus and the resources on campus. All registrations and day of pick up will be at the NAU University Union Fieldhouse. Found HERE.

Parking, you are welcome to park on campus but we suggest using lot P16 in front of the Fieldhouse, but with the closures this can be a little tricky to get into. So I would suggest parking behind Cline Library in lot P13 and enter the campus south of the library and you will see al the commotion.

For families and friends can access the course with just a short walk from downtown or any of the above mentioned parking lots. There are lots of places to watch with shade and grassy areas to set up pop up tents. Even a few sand volleyball courts that are close!
